HEART OF HALL—CELEBRATING GLORIOUS FOOD & WINE
Heart of Hall is a cooking school, cafe and retail space in the heart of Melbourne’s west. Located within 10km of Melbourne’s CBD, Heart of Hall’s aim is to bring the best food straight to Newport’s doorstep. Local suppliers, food heroes and cooking experts are all showcased in Heart of Hall’s classes, where people can connect in an entertaining atmosphere while learning and engaging with good, gourmet food.
More than 800 students have attended Heart of Hall’s classes since it opened one year ago. With chef Kate McKay at the helm of the cooking school, classes vary from Spanish paella to Vietnamese pancakes, French banquets and Italian pasta making. There are also many technical classes on offer such as cheese making, knife skills, fermentation and creative kombucha home brewing.
This year will be the first time the team at Heart of Hall get to participate in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, with owners Stacey Krbaleski and Nicole Walker eagerly looking forward to being part of 2019 lineup: “We just missed out on applying for last year’s festival with our doors opening late January; there just wasn’t time to submit a concept. But now with a year of classes under our belt and a strong community following, we are so excited to contribute to this year’s program.”
Working with local businesses who are equally community-minded is a high priority for the Hall Street traders. “We are particularly proud to be partnering with Gem Pier Seafoods who are a Williamstown family owned and run business. What better way to showcase our amazing corner of Melbourne.”

Keeping with this year’s theme of Community, Heart of Hall Cooking School will be teaming up with Williamstown's Gem Pier Seafoods to execute a Drunken Sailor Cooking Class! A class filled with impressive, delicious tapas and delightful cocktails with a rich nautical history, to celebrate the seafaring soul of this gorgeous part of town.
During this hands-on cooking class, guest will learn how to clean, prepare and cook seafood for tapas and to make nautical-inspired cocktails that speak to Newport’s seafaring soul.
Eating and drinking what you’ve just made is heartily encouraged and may even answer the perennial question: what will we do with a Drunken Sailor?
